Last weekend we joined fellow PLOTTER and Sutton Chamber Chair, Katie Hale, on her quest to raise vital funds for Motor Neurone Disease Association (MNDA) by climbing the highest peak in Wales, Mount Snowdon.

It was a memorable walk together with close friends. Done to raise funds. Done because it’s important. The high peak was expected. Such deep feelings were not.

“It was such an emotional day but it was wonderful to be doing something so positive for MNDA after such a tough few months. I thought I was spent mentally on the day, but the generosity shown by those who’ve donated has been equally mind-blowing. I really am so grateful for the donations, and so proud of my mountain-climbing friends.”

Katie Hale

Katie is a lifelong friend whose world was turned upside down last December when her husband, Terry, was diagnosed with the devastating disease. This is why we climbed for MNDA.

What is MND? Motor neurone disease happens when cells in the brain and nerves, called motor neurons, gradually stop working. This causes the muscles to weaken, stiffen and waste. It is not known why this happens.

The charity target was 10k, which was absolutely smashed – now standing at just over 12k!

“I’ve known Katie all my life and have been supported by her countless times over the years, it’s not just me either, but everyone – it’s just who Katie is. So I’ve been overwhelmed by the response we’ve received, and by the kind words from everyone – overwhelmed, but not surprised. Katie’s friends and colleagues have jumped at the opportunity to give something back.”

Anna Plotnek, PLOTT MD

We are delighted with 121% of the target. We’ve had donations from many businesses, friends and colleagues and would like to thank them again. But we’d love to do more and can with your help.

The page is still open if you’d like to donate: Just Giving.

We’re also planning other fundraisers this year to support Katie and MNDA. If you would like to join us or if you have any fundraising ideas, we’d love to hear from you.

“We didn’t climb this mountain for accolades. We climbed it for Terry and we climbed it for those who suffer with MND. There are no awards for climbing Snowdon.

“So we awarded ourselves with hard-earned victory beer.”
