The Retro Games!

You might well be asking “What are the Retro Games?” The short answer is the Retro Games is a sports day; like the ones you remember from school, but for adults. It’s “retro” because it has all the old favourites like the egg-and-spoon and the three-legged race. 

Anna Plotnek from PLOTT and Katie Hale have joined forces with Dennis Kennedy from The Community Games as official brand and marketing partners. They’re currently working together to help launch the spin-off business version, The Retro Games. The aim is to bring businesses together to de-stress and network with fun events that promote health, happiness and teamwork.

The event takes place on Thursday 25th May from 2pm to 5pm. It’s being held at Coppice, the vibrant retail village and home to PLOTT. You’ll find the full details below, but first let me tell you all about the games.

The games are open to everyone, with teams of 4 to 6 preferred. Each team competes for points in their races with first, second and third place points up for grabs. It’s all in good fun, with activity levels to suit everyone. 

The Retro Games is brought to you by Inspire Activity and The Community Games and it promises to be a lot of fun. On the day they’ll be bringing back active, happy times with all the old favourites:

• Space hopper race
• Egg and spoon race
• Three legged race
• Sack race
• Bean bag pass
• Hula hoop race
• Football dribble
• Netball shoot-out
• Welly wanging
• Tug of war
• Giant Connect 4
• Jenga 
• Archery

What a line up! No matter your level of activity or fitness you’ll find a fun game in that lot. It is a competition, but it’s all in the spirit of fun – the aim is to get everyone outside and enjoying themselves. So it is a bit of fun – but it’s a worthy cause. It’s £195 per team, the proceeds of which will help The Community Games continue the good work they do in our communities.

Happier, healthier lives

The Community Games is all about encouraging people to try new activities and to inspire healthy, active lifestyles. It’s a passion project for Dennis Kennedy the founder of The Community Games. It was born from his love of sport and games, and their power to bring people together. Sport, games and being active is proven to help people lead happier, healthier lives. 

In practice this involves setting up and running events in local communities, with the goal of inspiring people to come along and have a try at something new. It’s not just sport on offer, but games, and artistic pursuits. Healthy bodies and healthy minds make for healthy communities.
