PLOTT take on the Retro Games

Let’s get ready to whang.

It’s an event that harks back to sports day – you remember? From all those years ago when you were at school. It’s an afternoon of team-building through events chosen because they’re fun, accessible and above all, retro. You’ll find hula-hoops and space-hoppers, egg-and-spoon and three-legged races, and more. There’s something for everyone. 

You’ll also find much hilarity, nostalgia and team work. The events are imaginative, often daft or – like the welly-whanging* – just plain bonkers. 

*Yes I said whanging. It’s not a euphemism, it’s Yorkshire for throw … probably.

The Retro Games events are run by Dennis Kennedy and his team from The Community Games. Its aims are to inspire people to try new activities and encourage them to lead healthy active lives.

Dennis worked with our very own Anna Plotnek and marketing consultant Katie Hale, and together they developed the idea for the Retro Games. This brings all the sports, games and fun of The Community Games events to the business community.

Winners and … more winners!

Teams on the day included The Sutton Chamber themselves, and fellow members: Katie Hale and Claire Whalley, Coppice, PLOTT and BMET College. They were joined by other local businesses including Align Architecture, TM Ware and Aspire Sports. The afternoon of games and sports was universally acclaimed a resounding success.

The real purpose of the Retro Games is to get people to try something new, get active, and have some fun. Everyone involved is a winner, but one team came out on top.

Yes, you guessed it. PLOTT won for ‘best fancy dress’, and I can’t really remember any other awards. Oh yes, Aspire won the competition or something … Seriously though, congratulations to Aspire Sports for their overall win on the day.

The proceeds raised by the Retro Games goes into supporting Dennis and his team in the good work they do, bringing communities together and introducing people to sports and games, and to try something new.
