We’ve exhibited at the Royal Business Fair since it began two years ago, and we’ve always really enjoyed the event whilst getting lots from it!

So if you’ve booked your stand and are wondering what else you need to consider, we have put together our top tips to maximise your time and investment.

Who will be attending on the day?

It’s not always the person with the most knowledge who is best to put on your stand. This is your shop window for the day – you need someone engaging, welcoming and happy to attend. Ideally, take two people so you can take regular breaks to meet other exhibitors and have some lunch!

Do you have branded banners?

Dust off those roller banners and check they are on brand, do they really say what you are about? Are they suitable for this event? If you are looking at having new ones created always consider the bottom half may not be visible once tables are in place, and you ideally need two to fill your space nicely.

Do you want to give away branded merchandise?

There is no point ordering 1000 stress balls for the sake of it! Think about your customers, what are they likely to keep/use/find most useful. Could you find a product that relates to your business? We use our infamous plott branded chocolate as this always seems to hit the spot… There are many new sustainable products in the market place too which is bang on trend and better for the environment.

Find out who else is exhibiting?

It’s a great opportunity to catch up with suppliers/clients.  Often the best connections can come from people in the room.

Data Collection?

It’s a great opportunity to collect details and add people to your email database. How will you collect peoples details?

You could simply collect business cards and manually add afterward.

You could also connect with them on LinkedIn on the day (using the LI barcode tool) **but remember lots of people don’t have their work email on their LinkedIn account.

Have you told everyone you are attending?

Pre-event, use your social media channels and email marketing to tell people you are going to be there – the more people attend the better the return for everyone.

Why will people come to your stand?

Is there something for them to take part in? How about a competition?

We have a bit of a creative license being a branding agency and we’ve had some fun over the years getting people to draw self-portraits and use selfie frames – this gives us great social media content throughout the day too.

Last few details…

Do you need power?

You could have screens that you need to use, or maybe a game to play.

Remember the tables

The tables are normally dressed but what else will you add? Make it look appealing and keep it tidy!

What to wear?

You are there to represent your company if you have branded clothing make sure it’s smart and ironed. Shine those shoes and remember the mints…

Our advice is DON’T sell, and be memorable, helpful and informative! This is your chance to make new connections and build your network, most of all enjoy it.
