What is the secret of its success?
It’s true that WordPress is both free, and open-source – but that’s true of Drupal (1%) too. The plugin library is vast, which makes it easy to extend WordPress. But the size of its library is likely because of its success, not the cause. In short, there’s no easy answer.
At PLOTT we love WordPress because of its flexibility. This means we can program it to do just-about anything we need. It is also very high performance when done right. Search engines find WordPress easy to read. It benefits from regular updates and so remains secure. All this, and it gives us the connection between the administration area and the front-end.
The way websites are being built today is beginning to change. It’s a welcome change. It will bring websites with light-weight front-ends and give sites a speed boost. This is already blurring the lines between websites and apps, and it will continue for years.
Even with this change, we will keep on using WordPress. Its impressive plasticity allows us to configure, program and bend it to our will. So we can create the next generation of websites and apps with WordPress. These are exciting and interesting times.
So we’re expecting WordPress to be around for many years to come. Here’s to the next big milestone!
